Alaaddin Hill

Alâaddin Hill is located in Karatay, one of the central districts of our city. The hill is 450 x 350 meters long, 20 meters high, it is one of the settlements belonging to the period between prehistoric and history, which is called the mound. As a result of the excavations carried out by the Turkish Historical Society in 1941, it was understood that the first settlement on the hill began in the Early Bronze Age, around 3000 BC. After this period, it continued to be used as a settlement in the Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Today, it is a recreation spot besides its historical value. Alaaddin Mosque, one of the oldest Seljuk works, is located on the hill.

Alâaddin Mosque

The Alâaddin Mosque is one of the oldest Seljuk artifacts and was built on the Alaaddin Hill. Its construction was started during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Rükneddin Mesud (1116-1156) and completed during the time of I. Alaaddin Keykubad (1221). In the courtyard of the mosque are the tombs of I. Mesud, Kılıç Arslan, II.Rükneddin Süleyman, I.Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev, I.Alâaddin Keykubad, II.Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev, IV.Kılıç Arslan and III.Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev. It is written that this mosque, built near the Seljuk Palace, was completed by Sultan Alâeddin Keykubat from the four-line inscription on the door opening to the north.

The Mevlana Museum is a museum that has been operating since 1926 in the building complex in Konya, formerly the lodge of Mevlana. It is also known as the "Mevlana Tomb". The tomb of Mevlana, called the Green Dome, was built on four elephant feet (thick columns).
